Why did I become a photographer?
My journey is unconventional. I studied geography and climatology at the University of Lyon III before working as a laborer in beverage delivery. At the age of 35, I chose to become a photographer. And today, I’ve come full circle by returning to the university, but this time as a teacher.
Why did I choose photography as a profession?
First, to make my children proud. Then, because photography is my mode of expression. It gives me a place in this world.
My past experiences have shaped me. The working-class world taught me endurance and the ability to push my physical limits. The academic world, on the other hand, showed me that knowledge is a form of freedom, a tool for empowerment.
I draw on all these experiences in my photography practice today. It is a fascinating and demanding profession, in which human connection plays a vital role.
Why wedding photography?
Modern wedding photography is an incredibly comprehensive discipline that requires mastery of several major photography styles: portraiture, reportage, still life, and more.
You need to be able to shoot in daylight, at night, indoors, outdoors… You must know when to step back and when to be fully present. Every shot has to be successful while maintaining the overall coherence of the final story.
When you know how to photograph a wedding, you know how to photograph anything! It’s a fascinating and creative profession, full of meaningful encounters, and I consider myself lucky to be a part of it.
Photography is a passport to people and places and to possibilities.”
